Sometimes the treasure that you traveled miles to find might just be right at your doorstep. This statement has been repeated many times in the form of parables and proverbs. It holds true for Blessings and Wale, and you’ll soon find out why. It holds true for Blessing and Wale, and you’ll soon see why!
Blessing was familiar with Wale. She had been praying to find her one and only Wale. The two of them are now ready to live happily ever after. Wale, a gentleman who had been dating for two years, pulled off a pleasant surprise at an art gallery. He got down on one knee and asked Blessing, the love of his life, to marry him. She said yes! We love this moment and are rooting for them.
Enjoy their photos of their proposal below, and their love story as told through Blessing.
How We Met
By the bride to be, Blessing
Our story began in 2015. Our story begins in 2015. We became close friends through social media, and then we started to run into each other at events. We became more friendly and started to have brief conversations. Now, fast forward to summer 2018. Fast forward to the summer of 2018. At that moment, I hadn’t spoken to Wale for a while. A few months later, as I was going to bed, I found a funny meme video on Twitter. I thought the person in it looked very similar to Wale. As a joke, I shared the Snapchat video with him to let him know that I was a close friend. We haven’t spoken for years, and this was the first time I sent him a funny video.
He opened the video after he was given it. He replied, “This person doesn’t look like me!” and then he stopped responding. I found his reply rude and snobbish, so I laughed again at the video. Wale sent me a Snapchat message asking for my number. He wanted to talk to me about an important matter and wanted to send it a day or two after I sent the video. I gave him my number, and he called me unexpectedly. He called me that night and we just began speaking. We briefly discussed the video I sent and joked about whether or not it looked like him. The conversation turned serious after that.
He said that he had already thought about reaching out to me around the time I reached him. He said that he was serious about getting to know me, and would pursue me seriously. It was almost as if God had placed his name in mine and mine in his. The conversation lasted approximately 2 hours. I thought wow, it was our first real conversation. I got off the phone and called my sister to tell her about the conversation. As a newly single woman, I wasn’t sure if it was possible to mix with someone. My sister used to say it very clearly: “What are you waiting for?” It didn’t work for the last person. Don’t waste your time with the next person.
After some thought, I decided to go back to social media and take a look at Wale’s photos again. This time, I realized that he is indeed a handsome man. It’s tall, dark, and handsome, just the way I like it. He was a friend and I had seen him at many events. Sometimes, my friends would joke with me by saying “Look at your husband” to me when we ran into each other at parties. I would laugh and then dismiss it. This was before he approached us. However, I thought about it and remembered the prayer I had prayed to God for me to be sent. I decided to take a leap of faith, and give dating a shot again. We were very similar when we first started dating.
Although I was born in Nigeria, my family moved to New York. Wale was born in New York and raised there. Although we were raised in different places, we shared many things in common. It was almost frightening to see our compatibility. Our entire wedding and our lives were planned at the beginning of our dating phase. Talking nonstop was our norm. We couldn’t get off the phone while he was at school or working. It was so easy to be glued to each other. We became best friends and Wale asked me to marry him on July 18, 2021. This was 2 years after we started dating. We are both so excited to begin the next phase of our lives together and cannot wait to share the rest of our lives.
